Veneto's investing in a cleaner future

Jul 31, 2012

Through the ALPSTAR project, the Veneto Region wants to carry out a new concept toward carbon neutrality in Veneto’s productive sector.

The rapid development of Veneto, passed from an agricultural society to one characterised by industrial and craft activities, caused an increased production of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere, due to specific production activities, transport, heat and electricity production.
Emissions from industrial plants: in the ’90s, began the implementation of a series of control measures:
o using less polluting fuels;
o using cleaner production techniques and combustion;
o adoptioning of an emissions abatement systems.
In general, good results were achieved. In addition to that, through the Regional Plan for Protection and Recovery of the Atmosphere (2011 version still in finalization phase), the Veneto Region’s administration is establishing the way it has to cover in order to achieve high levels of environmental protection and restoration in critical areas.
The Veneto Region – Industry and Craft Department decided to join the ALPSTAR project partnership in order to enhance the knowledge at regional level and among enterprises of the Carbon Mitigation Actions and to facilitate the dialogue between the regional – local administration and the productive clusters to adopt coherent carbon neutrality programmes, in line with the existing plans for carbon mitigation.
